Lionel Messi put Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 up against Lens in stunning fashion ahead of half-time after a brilliant backheel assist from teammate Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe became Ligue 1’s top scorer in the 21st century after he fired PSG into the lead in the 31st minute at the Parc des Princes on Saturday.

PSG midfielder Vitinha doubled his side’s lead only six minutes later before Messi stepped up three minutes later to produce a moment of pure magic.

Messi received the ball before charging towards the Lens box and effortlessly linked up with PSG teammate Mbappe in a divine one-two touch move.

Mbappe picked up Messi’s pass on the edge of the box and immediately played a backheel pass that the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner received after making his darting run.

Messi, who is out of contract with PSG in the summer, then swept a powerful low strike past Lens shot-stopper Brice Samba before wheeling away in celebration.

One fan said: “Love to see the genuine chemistry, BTW, Mbappe and Messi. Like them being happy for each other’s goals.”

Someone else added: “Messi and Mbappe combination is so deadly.”

“Bro, I swear if Mbappe x Messi linkup starts just now when Leo is almost ready to leave. You both had two years,” a third Twitter user wrote.

Another tweeted: “Is this the best Mbappe assist of his career so far? No doubt Messi was at the opposite side.”

A fifth posted: “The link-up between Messi and Mbappe.”

While another commented: “Beautiful assist from Mbappe to Messi!”

PSG, who were knocked out of the Champions League last 16 by Bayern Munich last month, were six points clear of second-place Lens ahead of Saturday’s clash.

Messi’s long-term future in the French capital has remained unclear since Argentina’s triumphant 2022 World Cup campaign in Qatar.

The 35-year-old Argentine forward has been linked with a stunning return to Barcelona, as well as attracting interest from Saudi Arabia and the MLS.
