Just two players were present at Lucas Vázquez’s farewell press conference ahead of him leaving Real Madrid after ten years of service.

Vazquez, 34, joined Real Madrid’s academy in 2007 and played for Los Blancos’ youth set up and ‘C’ and ‘B’ sides before making his first team debut in 2015.

And despite never getting the acclaim of the so-called Galacticos such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham, the Spaniard’s impact on the club will be remembered by fans at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 34-year-old will leave Real having won five Champions League crowns, five Club World Cups, four UEFA Super Cups, four La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and four Spanish Super Cups. However, this was seemingly not enough for all of his Madrid teammates to make the effort to appear at his farewell press conference on Thursday (July 17).

Speaking at a press conference held at Real’s training ground, Vazquez said: “I want to start by thanking the fans, for your applause, for every gesture of support, you have been with me every step of the way, and you have made me feel something eternal. I came here with a dream, and I have fulfilled it.

“Above all, I have been happy. I have always tried to give the best of myself, and I have felt valued and loved. I want to give my heartfelt thanks to the president, Florentino Perez. You have always shown me your affection, and I will always be proud of it. To Jose Angel Sanchez for always making things easy after long and hard negotiations.

“I leave with peace of mind, with a clear conscience, I have fulfilled the dream of my life, and I have done it in the biggest club in the world. But this is not a goodbye, it is a see you soon because here I was happy, because here I am happy, because here I have always been a canterano of Real Madrid.”

But despite his array of achievements at the club, only Mbappe and Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin were in attendance, with GOAL reporting that the France international cut his holiday short in a touching gesture towards the veteran defender.

Former teammate Marcelo was also at the ceremony.
