Carlo Ancelotti has finally revealed which position Kylian Mbappe will play in Real Madrid's new star-studded attack.

Mbappe officially signed for Real on July 1 after his PSG contract expired, with his presentation taking place following the completion of Euro 2024.

The Frenchman took the number nine shirt that formerly belonged to Karim Benzema and had been unused during the 2023/24 campaign.

Mbappe's preferred number is 10, but he wanted veteran midfielder Luka Modric to keep that particular shirt.

The 24-year-old did not make his Real debut in their 3-0 friendly win over Albacete on Wednesday as he has been granted a period of rest following France's progression to the semi-final of Euro 2024.

But Real fans won't have to wait long to see him in action - particularly as the club's medical staff have reportedly determined that he does need to have surgery on the broken nose he suffered at Euro 2024.

Speaking ahead of Mbappe's much-anticipated debut, Real manager Ancelotti appeared on the Obi One Podcast - hosted by former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel - to tell listeners that the Frenchman will play up front, but can be interchangeable.

He explained: "I see him playing up front. The front, the attack, is quite wide - the pitch is 68 metres. We have to cover these 68 metres with the players in front.

"If I ask you where Vinicius played last season, it's difficult to say. He didn't [always] play as a left winger, he moved.

"The important key to the attacking players is the mobility of the players. Sometimes they can play on the left, sometimes down the middle.

"Bellingham sometimes played on the left, sometimes in the middle, sometimes went to the right. Rodrygo started most of the game on the right, sometimes I saw him playing on the left. So it's important, the mobility.

"I want to give them freedom. They have to be able to manage the situation of the game. We played one game against City with both Vinicius and Rodrygo on the left, because we thought we could take advantage.

"We are not so worried where Mbappe will play. I think it's true, it's important about the mobility up front."
