Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has revealed what he said to Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois after fans reportedly threw poo at him.

Real and Atleti faced off in a top of the table clash on Sunday at the Metropolitano Stadium for the first Madrid derby of the season.

The match ended 1-1, but it was not the scoreline that has people talking after the match was abandoned in the 68th minute as several objects, including what some fans speculated was a bag of faeces, were thrown at Courtois.

And now, Simeone has revealed exactly what he said to the Real goalkeeper about the incident post-match.

Speaking after the match about the incident, Simeone said: “I told Courtois to stay calm. We don’t need those people in the stands. But be careful with those of us who play the victim. You can see when Courtois provokes the crowd and laughs.”

As the objects were thrown at the Belgian keeper, Atletico's Jose Gimenez and Koke pleaded with fans to stop but eventually referee Mateo Busquets Ferrer was forced to withdraw both sets of players from the pitch.

As the game was suspended, Real lead due to a goal from defender Eder Militao, and Simeone argues that Courtois reactions to his side taking the lead is what riled up fans and lead to him being targeted.

After the 15-minute break, the hosts were able to find a 95th minute equaliser through Angel Correa.

Things were only to get worse for Real Madrid, as after the match, manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Courtois has suffered an injury during the match and remains a doubt for Wednesday's Champions League fixture with LOSC Lille.

"Fran García has a nasty knock, and Courtois has a muscle problem. He’ll be evaluated tomorrow," Ancelotti revealed in the press conference.

If the results of Courtois’ tests rule him out, Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin will likely be handed his first minutes of the season.

Courtois missed the majority of last season after suffering a Cruciate ligament tear followed by a Meniscus tear and therefore will no doubt be concerned by the possibility of further time away from the pitch.
