Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti was once left ‘angry’ after a player left the club despite the Italian wanting him to stay.

Ancelotti, 65, is known for his composed approach to the game and is very rarely flustered.

However, one of his former players has revealed that he was once left ‘angry’ when he left the club despite the Real Madrid boss wanting him to remain.

Ancelotti is blessed with a hugely talented squad with the likes of Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham all part of Los Blancos’ side.

Although most of the time, the aforementioned names have a huge bearing on the La Liga side’s fortunes, much of their success last season was down a forward who no longer plays for the club.

Cast your mind back to the 2023/24 Champions League semi-final second leg. Madrid faced Bayern Munich, and after Alphonso Davies’ strike looked likely to drop out of the competition.

Bellingham, Vini Jr and Rodrygo were all seemingly bereft of ideas as Madrid looked all but out of Europe’s premier club competition.

However, Joselu saved his side’s blushes with goals in the 88th and 91st minute to send them through to the final, which they won 2-0 against Borussia Dortmund.

In the 2023/24 campaign, the Germany-born Spain international netted 17 times in 49 appearances.

But he left the club at the end of the season, penning a deal at Qatar-based side Al-Gharafa.

Now, he has claimed that Ancelotti actually wanted him to stay in an interview with 'Jugones'.

“Saying goodbye to Real Madrid was one of the most difficult moments of my life,” Joselu explained.

“I couldn’t make that decision with my heart because I would have stayed at the club all my life, I get goosebumps thinking about it.

"I thought about my family, my children, and I think it’s positive in the long run, but at the time it was negative.

“When I decided to leave, I was unable to talk to my wife. Lucas Vazquez called me, and I was unable to talk to him, as well as to Modric.

"I couldn’t find the words. Telling Ancelotti was difficult, as he was angry because he wanted me to stay.”
