Barcelona have decided to offload a surprise player who does not want to leave the club in order to register new signing Marcus Rashford.

The forward has headed to the La Liga side on loan for the campaign from Manchester United, with an option for Barca to purchase Rashford next summer for a reported transfer fee of around £26m.

Rashford, 27, appears to have no future at United as boss Ruben Amorim reshapes the squad to his liking.

The England international was one of five players at United - along with Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia - who had been training away from the main first-team squad since pre-season started.

None of the players have since headed to the United States to play for the club on its pre-season tour of America and Rashford has become the first of the quintet to leave, having spent the second half of last season on loan at fellow Premier League club Aston Villa.

Rashford has since made his debut for Barcelona and grabbed his first assist for his new side in his second match for the club in a pre-season friendly against FC Seoul.

And to make room for Rashford in Hansi Flick's squad, one of the current members is likely to move on - despite apparently wanting to stay.

Marc Casado is a product of Barcelona's famed La Masia academy and made his first-team debut in November 2022.

Since then, he has gone on to make 41 appearances and score once for Barcelona, as well as picking up two caps for Spain.

Last season was Casado's most fruitful for Barca, racking up 36 appearances across all competitions and scoring against Real Sociedad in a 4-0 La Liga victory in March.

But it is now being reported that, so Barcelona can register Rashford, Casado will be shipped out, despite the player himself not wanting to move on to pastures new.

According to Spanish publication AS, Casado's future 'hangs in the balance' and is 'considered likely to leave'.

The sale of Casado would also increase space in the team's Fair Play system so it more quickly reaches the 1:1 rule for registering players.

The report also outlines that Casado's playing time in his defensive midfield role is likely to be restricted owing to the presence of Frenkie De Jong and the return to fitness of Marc Bernal.

The report suggests Barcelona value Casado at €30m, though the Catalan side are open to negotiating, with either a permanent move or a paid loan with an option to buy on the cards.

However, Casado is described as being 'reluctant' to leave Barcelona, having been a fan of the club since he was a child and is keen to succeed there, despite the reduced playing opportunities on the horizon.
