Barcelona midfielder Gavi admits his mum doesn't watch his games anymore

Gavi and his Barcelona teammate will come up against Real Madrid in the much-anticipated El Clasico on Saturday afternoon.

Barcelona midfielder Gavi has explained why his mum "doesn't even watch the matches anymore" as he prepares for Saturday's much-anticipated El Clasico.

The 19-year-old has been a revelation for the Catalan giants since being thrust into the first-team by Ronald Koeman, just 24 days after his 17th birthday.

He would soon go on to become Spain's youngest ever player when he started against Italy in their Nations League semi-final clash at 17 years and 62 days old.

Gavi, who is known for his fearless and committed nature, has taken every challenge in his stride.

In fact, some believe he can go a little too far when it comes to putting his head where other players fear to put their leg. Remember that incident against Athletic Bilbao last season?

As a result of his tenacious and, at times, risky style of play, Gavi's mum tends to avoid the games because she "gets scared a lot".

Speaking to DAZN via SPORT ahead of Saturday's clash against Real Madrid, he explained: “My mum doesn’t even watch the matches anymore, the truth is that she gets scared a lot.

“She always says to me before going to the match: ‘Be careful, don’t get into any fights.’ I always try to calm her down and keep her as calm as possible.”

Gavi also opened up about upcoming opponents Real Madrid and in particular Jude Bellingham, who has flourished at Los Blancos after arriving from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

“I already knew Bellingham from his time at Dortmund and he’s showing his level at Madrid, but they also have many complete players and we don’t focus on one, but on the entire team”, he said via Diario AS.

“I quite like Tchouameni as a player. He seems like a top footballer. I really like him as a player.”

Gavi has made 14 appearances in all competitions for club and country this season. He will be hoping Barca can leapfrog Real Madrid in La Liga with a win this weekend.
