Barcelona star confirms club have offered him new contract but he may reject it even if they win La Liga

Barca have already begun planning for the 2025/26 season.

Barcelona have offered a new contract to one of their first team players - but the player himself says he does not know whether he should accept it.

Hansi Flick's side are closing in on the La Liga title after Sunday's 4-3 win over Real Madrid in El Clasico.

With three games remaining in the season, Barca require just one more win to guarantee their second league title in the space of three seasons.

Elimination from the Champions League at the semi-final stage by Inter Milan dampened spirits at the club, but Barca are on course for a domestic treble after winning the Copa del Rey and Supercopa de Espana.

It hasn't all been smooth sailing for Los Blancos, however, with goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen missing the majority of the campaign after rupturing the patella in his right knee back in September.

Barca acted quickly to bring Wojciech Szczesny out of retirement to provide goalkeeping cover, and despite some shaky early performances, but has put in some crucial displays to help Flick's side to within touching distance of the title.

The 35-year-old has now confirmed that Barca have offered him a new contract to keep him at the club next season, but he says he isn't sure whether to accept it.

Speaking to Canal+ after the El Clasico victory, he explained: "I'm not hiding the fact that I was offered a two-year extension. But I have to decide with my family what's best for us.

"I think I owe it to my family, to my wife, to make these decisions together. So I haven't made any yet.

"Most of the decisions about my home are made by my wife, and I'm not ashamed at all. I usually make the football ones. But it's a very unusual situation.

"We were determined to come here for a year to try and achieve our dreams and then return to playing golf. I'll decide in the coming weeks. There are also the logistical aspects of studies [for their children], moving etc.

"For now, I'm enjoying what's happened, and not wondering whether I'll stay here or not."

With Ter Stegen now back in training, Szczesny could enter next season as Barca's second-choice goalkeeper if he chooses to stay.

The German international returned to action against Real Valladolid on May 4.

But Flick stated he would rotate his goalkeepers until the end of the season, with Szczesny then playing against Real Madrid.

"I think it's good for goalkeepers to rotate," Flick said. "It's good for Szczesny to rest and recover.

"Ter Stegen is doing very well in training. He can play now. I'm not thinking about anything beyond that, just the Valladolid game."
