Kylian Mbappe was brutally pied by Kyle Walker in tunnel, it was so awkward

France golden boy Kylian Mbappe appeared to be brutally pied by England defender Kyle Walker in the tunnel prior to Saturday night's World Cup quarter-final.

After scoring five goals for the holders in the tournament, Mbappe was very much pinpointed as the dangerman for France and he dominated much of the pre-match conversation.

In fact, Walker was asked about him at length and said he would not "roll out the red carpet", even adding that he found Sadio Mane to be a tougher opponent.

And although they were involved in one of the most fascinating battles, footage has emerged of the teams lining up in the tunnel before the huge clash.

Mbappe offered his hand out to Walker but it seems as though the Manchester City defender did not notice him.

After extending his handshake for a fair amount of time, he eventually took his hand away and laughed awkwardly.

Some fans had first thought Jordan Henderson was the one who left Mbappe hanging - joking he had scuppered any chance of him signing for Liverpool in the future.

But BBC Sport confirmed it was indeed Walker giving Mbappe the cold shoulder.

Walker, who was faced Mbappe at club level, did well to keep the 23-year old relatively quiet and he didn't have much sight of goal at the Al Bayt Stadium.

Both displayed blistering pace as they turned on the jets but Mbappe, running with the ball at his feet down the left, came out on top.

He found a cut-back and though the ball didn't quite fall for Olivier Giroud or Ousmane Dembele, it was Mbappe at his very best.

The former Monaco star went viral later on after cameras captured him laughing at Harry Kane's crucial penalty miss.

The England skipper had the chance to level from the spot for a second time but blasted his strike over the bar as England were eliminated from the tournament.
