The FA reveal what referee Paul Tierney said to Jurgen Klopp on touchline

The FA have revealed what Paul Tierney said to Jurgen Klopp on the touchline when he showed him a yellow card.

Klopp has been hit with a two-game ban, one of which is suspended until next season, as well as a £75,000 fine - after post-match comments about Tierney were deemed to "imply bias, question the integrity of the referee, are personal, offensive, and bring the game into disrepute".

The interview in question came after Liverpool beat Spurs 4-3 in dramatic fashion at Anfield, with Diogo Jota scoring a last-gasp winner.

Klopp celebrated in the face of fourth official John Brooks and was booked for his behaviour. Speaking to Sky Sports, Klopp accused the official of saying something "unacceptable" - adding "what the referee said to me when he gave me the yellow card is not okay."

The German manager has been found guilty of FA Rule E3 and after admitting improper conduct, the transcript of the conversation heard by the Independent Regulatory Commission has been shared.

As per the Liverpool Echo, the report details: "Mr Brooks contacted Mr Tierney and said: 'Jurgen Klopp has just run and celebrated in my face. I think it’s a yellow card mate, minimum.'

"It is clear that Mr Brooks considered Mr Klopp’s conduct to be misplaced celebration rather than an aggressive or threatening move. Mr Tierney responded, saying that he had not seen what happened and needed advice whether the sanction should be a yellow or red card.

"The Video Assistant Referee reviewed the video footage and advised, 'Confirming yellow card. Confirming yellow card Jurgen Klopp.'

"Armed with this confirmation Mr Tierney went to Mr Klopp and showed him a yellow card, saying: 'Right…I have to show you yellow. …it could be red, but I am going to show you yellow. He said yellow. We will give you the benefit of the doubt, don’t do anything more.'

"Mr Klopp’s frustrated reaction can be clearly seen in the video footage."

Klopp has history with Tierney and accused him of having a problem with him and his team in the same controversial interview.

Klopp will now be unable to take charge of Liverpool's visit of Aston Villa this weekend, with assistant manager Pep Lijnders assuming duties instead.

The second match is suspended until the end of next season, providing he does not commit further breaches.
