Klopp highlighted 'main difference' in Liverpool squad that led to Man Utd mauling

Jurgen Klopp highlighted the “main difference” that led to Liverpool's 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United.

On Sunday Jurgen Klopp’s side delivered a complete performance against their bitter rivals.

Mohamed Salah scored a brace to become the club’s record scorer while the previously misfiring forwards Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez also each netted a pair of goals.

Outgoing striker Roberto Firmino then added a seventh late on, to inflict United with their joint-heaviest competitive defeat. Indeed the last time the Old Trafford club lost by a seven-goal margin was against Wolverhampton Wanderers back in 1931.

The mauling created shock waves across the football world. Indeed United’s renaissance under Erik ten Hag has already produced tangible rewards, with the club having last week won the Carabao Cup.

However, Klopp’s side looked rejuvenated on Sunday, putting in their best performance of the season to end United's 11-game unbeaten run.

Klopp explained the ‘main difference’

Klopp explained that Liverpool had seen several players return from injury, which was the "main difference" in their improved performance.

Speaking after the United rout, Klopp said: “We know we can play good football and better than we show at times this season but there are reasons why we did not.

“The main difference is we have now pretty much all the players available, which is helpful.

“You saw the other night having Diogo is super helpful and now Bobby, you saw the reception he got. In the last line, we have options again.

“We have for the first time this season four or five players, not in the squad who are training outstanding.

“Before that, we had nine to ten players injured and that is not helpful when you are not on a good run.

“We started this season and never could get out of it. Really special night tonight but we have to keep going.”
