The reason why Bayern Munich's sacking of Julian Nagelsmann was a terrible idea ahead of Thomas Tuchel's arrival

Bayern Munich will have paid out a whopping €65m fee for Julian Nagelsmann’s short spell at the club ahead of Thomas Tuchel succeeding him.

Bayern Munich’s decision to sack Julian Nagelsmann has been labelled as “stupid” due to the amount of money involved in bringing him to the club in the first place and his subsequent payout.

Nagelsmann, who arrived at Bayern in 2021, led the German side to a Bundesliga title in his debut season and two German Super Cups.

Bayern beat Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16 in the Champions League this season to punch their ticket to a quarter-final showdown with Manchester City.

Despite their progression in Europe this season, Bayern have struggled domestically under Nagelsmann and are second in the Bundesliga behind Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen last Sunday, with Nagelsmann axed during the international break.

According to reports, ex-PSG and Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is set to succeed Nagelsmann at Bayern ahead of the club’s match against Dortmund on 1st April.

However, Twitter user Casey Evans has now highlighted the €65m fee that Bayern have paid in total for Nagelsmann after axing him mid-season.

It is believed that Nagelsmann’s transfer fee from RB Leipzig cost a whopping €25m, with Bayern now paying out €8m for each season on the remainder of his five-year deal.

Manchester City loanee Joao Cancelo was left stunned when he learned of Nagelsmann’s dismissal while representing Portugal on international duty.

Speaking at a post-match press conference, he said: “I did not know! I’m a little surprised. Thanks to Nagelsmann, he was the one who wanted me at Bayern. All the luck in the world to him.

“I’m going to try to adapt our coach’s concepts as much as possible because we have several important games, in the decisive phase of the season. Bayern is a team always ready to win everything.

Cancelo added: “As for Tuchel, he made me lose a Champions League final, so I hope he will win it for me this year!”
