Chelsea are 'trying to sign' Joao Felix in January, their transfer window could be huge

Chelsea could be set for an absolutely massive January transfer window, with Joao Felix being lined up for a move to Stamford Bridge.

It has been quite the few months of upheaval at Chelsea, with Todd Boehly taking over from Roman Abramovich as the club's owner in the summer.

The American then swapped Champions League winning manager Thomas Tuchel for Graham Potter, although not before a summer of investment into signings.

Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang haven't quite worked out yet for the Blues, and the team have only scored 17 times in the Premier League so far, the lowest in the top 10.

The money is expected to continue to flow in transfer spendings next month, when the transfer window opens again, with Christopher Nkunku, who missed the World Cup with a heartbreaking injury, expected to sign.

Nkunku's move is expected to be confirmed in January but he won't be moving from RB Leipzig until the summer, with Chelsea said to have offered more than his transfer release clause in order to make sure they beat the competition to his signing.

But with the Frenchman not joining until next season, Potter is still in need of more firepower, and that could come in the form of Felix.

According to the Telegraph, the west Londoners are eyeing a loan move for the Atletico Madrid forward, with either an option or obligation to sign the 23-year-old in the summer.

Felix was involved in Portugal's failed World Cup campaign, and proved he is their future in the last 16 battering of Switzerland, when Fernando Santos rightly dropped Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, his club form has failed to live up to expectations in the three and a half years since he left Benfica for Atletico.

At that point he was expected to be one of the best players in the world in coming years and cost Simeone's side around £113 million, as a replacement for Antoine Griezmann.

Things haven't worked out though, which has often been blamed on the manager's more defensive style of play not getting the best out of Felix.

He is expected to leave either in January or next summer, with the Spanish giants not likely to recoup the huge fee paid for him.

Bohely reportedly wants to move swiftly for the forward, who could play on either the left or the right, with Kai Havertz then playing up front.

Felix has previously been linked with other Premier League sides, with Arsenal eyeing cover upfront with Gabriel Jesus injured for the next few months.

However, January is clearly going to be a huge month for Potter's side, with a centre back also high up on the manager's wishlist for the new year.

The club have recently been linked with a move for Monaco's Benoit Badiashile, whilst Leipzig's Josko Gvardiol, star of the World Cup, is also of huge interest to them.
