Southampton have demanded a hefty transfer fee for James Ward-Prowse.

Fans genuinely can't believe how much Southampton want for James Ward-Prowse amid intense transfer speculation.

Ward-Prowse appears set to leave the Saints following their relegation from the Premier League this season.

That's despite him contributing nine goals from midfield as he showed off his dead-ball skills.

Aston Villa, West Ham United, Tottenham, among other English clubs, are thought to be keeping tabs on the star midfielder ahead of tabling an official bid.

But they could be reluctant to make an approach considering the price tag Southampton have slapped on their prized asset.

According to transfer expert Ekrem Konur, the club want a staggering £52 million for the 28-year-old this summer.

Naturally, Ward-Prowse's eye-watering price tag sent social media wild as fans couldn't believe how much the Championship side want for him.

One Twitter user wrote: "50m? Steep for a relegated player."

A second tweeted: "Not for £50 million, that’s not happening."

A third added: "52m for a championship player they must be having a laugh."

A fourth said: "I think the 2 numbers are the wrong way round."

A fifth commented: "If Mac Allister went for £35m, JWP is £20m max."

Another wrote: "Worth £20M tops. Currently in the championship, unlikely to have much re-sale value and is at best a mid table PL midfielder. £52M would be an insane valuation, even for a PL club."

The England international has spent his entire career at the St Mary's outfit. He touched on his future ahead of a potential departure.

"I've been here for 20 years and had a fantastic journey, I've enjoyed every minute of it. You never know what is going to happen in the future," he said.

"I come away this season with my head held high knowing I've done everything I can for this club, not only this year but ever since I came through the door as an eight year old.

"To play a part in not maintaining that Premier League status hurts me but I'm sure this club will be back in the future."
