How the Premier League table would look if all matches ended at 90:00

How the Premier League table would look if all matches ended at 90:00

The introduction of more added time in the Premier League meant one thing, more injury time drama.

The introduction of more added time in the Premier League meant one thing, more injury time drama.

Whilst as a neutral, a goal in stoppage time deciding a game is great for entertainment, if your team is on the receiving end of one, it’s heartbreaking.

Betfair’s ‘Match Odds 90’ market means if your match odds selection is winning as the clock hits 90:00, it is settled as a winner, no matter what happens in stoppage time! Betfair will then also payout on the final result too, meaning they can pay out on two results within the same game!

Looking at this season, the team who would benefit the most if Premier League games ended as soon as the clock hit 90:00 would be Man City. Whilst City saw two points won in stoppage time thanks to Oscar Bobb’s goal against Newcastle, the Citizens have dropped four points in injury time thanks to a Michael Olise penalty against Crystal Palace and a Cole Palmer penalty against Chelsea.

With the total points dropped in stoppage time being eradicated from their total, Man City would sit top of the pile by five points on 65.. That’s because title rivals Liverpool and Arsenal have this season won six and four points respectively thanks to injury time equalisers or winners.

In Betfair’s 90:00 world, Arsenal would drop to second on 60 points, whilst Liverpool would lose their six points won in injury time and fall to third, and seven points behind Man City. Perhaps Klopp Time is the new Fergie Time.

Interestingly, Liverpool and Arsenal are the teams that have also gained the most points in injury time, with the most dramatic being Darwin Nunez’s 99th minute winner against Nottingham Forest; the third latest winning goal in the top-flight this season behind Ollie Norwood (Sheff Utd v Wolves) and Dejan Kulusevski (Spurs v Sheff Utd), both of which came in the 100th minute.

Arsenal, Aston Villa and Chelsea are the three teams to not lose any points so far due to stoppage time concessions. On the other side of the coin, Nottingham Forest are the only side in the division to not gain a single point from a stoppage time goal.

This Premier League season is also a record breaking one with 86 stoppage time goals so far, more than any other campaign on record (since 2006-07). That number will only increase as we enter the crunch stage of the season.

Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and Darwin Nunez lead the stoppage time goalscoring charts with three each.

The race for promotion to the Premier League would also look very different if games finished exactly on the 90:00 minute mark.

Top of the league Leeds would actually be missing out on an automatic place with Ipswich gaining three points and sitting top of the pile. Leicester’s points total would remain the same, whereas Leeds would lose two points. Southampton have won 10 points after the 90:00 mark this season (the most in the whole of the EFL) but would be eight points worse off if the stoppage time goals did not count.

Make sure that your bets are free from stoppage time drama by taking advantage of Betfair’s 90 minute payout. If your match odds bet is winning and the clock hits 90:00, it’s a winner, no matter what happens! Remember, you can build Accas and Bet Builders with the ‘Match Odds 90’ markets too!
