Manchester United star tipped to quit the club and join Premier League rivals

England star Harry Maguire has been tipped to leave Manchester United and join Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

England star Harry Maguire has been tipped to leave Manchester United and join Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Maguire defied his doubters at the World Cup in Qatar. Despite his woeful club form, the 29-year-old was one of Gareth Southgate’s most impressive players on the Three Lions’ run to the quarter-finals of the tournament.

At United, however, Maguire has lost his place in the starting XI under manager Erik ten Hag, after a series of poor performances. Indeed, the England international is now behind a pair of World Cup finalists - Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martínez - in the United pecking order.

Ten Hag has admitted he is prepared to give club captain Maguire a chance this term, and challenged the player to replicate his international displays in the Premier League.

However, the Red Devils boss insisted the England centre-back can choose where his future lies, as he faces up to returning from starting at the World Cup to sitting on United’s bench.

Asked if Maguire could go, Ten Hag said, via The Sun: “Only when he doesn’t want to be in these circumstances any more. Until that moment, I am happy with him.”

Maguire to Spurs?

Beloved pundit Ally McCoist told TalkSPORT Breakfast he does not expect the centre-back to be a United player by the end of the January transfer window.

The former Rangers and Scotland star said: “I think he will move. I don’t think he may move, I’ll go one further – I think he WILL move.

“He isn’t going to hang around – he wants to play.

“I don’t think there are any guarantees that he’s going to march back into the Manchester United team, not in front of Varane and Martinez.”

When pressed on a destination for the United captain the 60-year-old stressed Maguire would struggle to break into Arsenal’s side, but added that Tottenham could be a good fit.

McCoist said: “Well, that’s up for debate. Clearly, he will want to play.

“Straight away off the top of my head, I’d say he’s good enough for Spurs. Arsenal? Maybe not at this moment in time.

“But he’s been one of England’s best players at the World Cup.”
