As the 2022 World Cup in Qatar edges ever closer, we have tasked the SPORTbible audience with picking their greatest moment in the competition’s history.

In our most recent poll on Twitter, more than 44% of people reckon that Germany's famous 7-1 thrashing of Brazil in 2014 is worthy of the title: greatest moment in World Cup history.

Look away now, Brazil fans.

Which is your favourite World Cup moment?

— SPORTbible (@sportbible) November 18, 2022

We gave you four options. One being Zinedine Zidane walking past the World Cup after being sent off in his last-ever professional game.

Who could forget that headbutt on Italy defender Marco Materazzi back in 2006? It will forever be regarded as one of the most controversial moments in football history.

We went back to when South Africa hosted Mexico in an enthralling encounter in Johannesburg. The 80,000 capacity stadium nearly erupted when Siphiwe Tshabalala opened the scoring ten minutes into the second half.

In fact, this goal was exactly eight years ago to the day, but it still wasn't voted the greatest moment in World Cup history.

Brazil suffering one of the most embarrassing World Cup defeats as Germany beat the hosts 7-1 to reach the final was your winner.

While Andres Iniesta's tribute to Dani Jarque after scoring the winning goal in the 2010 final was also mentioned in the list.

Thoughts on our results? Do you think there's a greater World Cup moment than the famous 7-1?
