Martin Odegaard Hits Absolute Rocket To Score His First Arsenal Goal

It stayed hit.

Danish ace Martin Odegaard scored with a thunderbolt against Olympiakos to open his Arsenal account in spectacular style.

With the Europa League last-16 first leg poised at 0-0, the on-loan Real Madrid midfielder picked up the ball outside the box, got it out from under his feet - then released the kraken.

The 22-year-old fired the ball so hard and with such late swerve that - even though Olympiakos goalkeeper Jose Sa had time to react - it simply blasted through the keeper and into the net. What a hit.

Odegaard had earlier in the game missed a far easier chance to score, so he made amends in style to put Arsenal 1-0 up in Greece.

Jose Sa understandably came in for criticism for not doing better with the vicious shot. But when there is that much movement on the ball travelling at pace, it's never easy for the goalkeeper.

Olympiakos came back into the game after Odegaard's rocket, but Arsenal took their one-goal advantage into the break to lead at half-time.

Arsenal fans are yet to see the best of Odegaard but there have definitely been promising signs as he's settled into the club - and slamming one in from outside the area is definitely a terrific way to boost confidence and endear yourself to your new supporters.

Whether there's a chance of Odegaard staying at the Emirates beyond the summer, or if he'll be back at Real Madrid, is still to be confirmed.

But keep scoring goals like this and Mikel Arteta may just lock the Denmark international in north London and swallow the key.
