Gavi's release clause could drop down to 50 million euros on one condition

The Barcelona midfielder could be available for a cut price, depending on a major development with his contract for the Spanish giants.

Barcelona star Gavi could still be available for a cut price deal, despite the fact that his new contract has finally been approved.

It's nothing new that Barcelona are a bit of a shambles off the pitch, even if they do currently top La Liga, with their finances often brought up as an issue.

One of the things that has been a problem for them is registering both new signings and new contracts for the players who are already there.

That has especially affected Gavi, who agreed a new deal at the Nou Camp months ago but the club haven't had it approved by La Liga.

The whole thing means that he hasn't been able to take the number six shirt at Barca, and instead has to continue wearing number 30, because he's not officially part of the first team.

It's also meant that so far the club haven't been able to increase his release clause to €1 billion, which is what it is in his new contract.

On Tuesday, it was reported that Barca's appeal to have the contract registered had been approved by a judge at the city's commercial court.

However, it's far from over, with Spanish journalist Luis Rojo saying the league are ready to appeal the decision themselves and if they're successful it will see the 18-year-old's release clause return to just €50 million.

Liverpool would certainly be interested in the teenager if that's the case, with Jurgen Klopp said to be 'obsessed' with signing the Spain international.

Klopp could wait 18 months for Gavi to be available for free but with the problems at the heart of their midfield, he could be tempted to make a move for the summer instead.

There is no doubting just how good the midfielder is, and he's already a regular for the national team, proving his complete class in the recent Clasico win.

The club's constant financial problems have seen them regularly eye up free transfers and loan moves in recent times, and that's no different now.

On deadline day the Spanish giants were linked with a temporary move for Manchester United youngster Anthony Elanga, to replace the injured Ousmane Dembele.

They are also said to be interested in a move for Real Madrid's Marco Asensio at the end of the current campaign, when the midfielder's deal expires.
