Football Manager 26 has finally dropped, but fans are divided over a controversial new feature.

After a two-year wait, the latest edition is now available to buy via Loaded, Green Man Gaming, and The Game Collection.

Designed to put players at the 'heart of the beautiful game', there are lots of new updates on offer, from tactical innovation and enhanced player movement to a reimagined user interface.

But fans are currently divided over the latter.

On Reddit, one fan shared: "It is Football Manager at the end of the day, the UI is a huge step back, but everything else is the same. The UI is just the engine cover. The engine running the game is the same as in 24 - so yeah, it's fun."

Another agreed, adding: "The new tactical system is really, really good. Also, the visualiser is really helpful to understanding the different ways the roles interact with each other in space on the pitch.

"There are definitely major issues with the UI and stability, and some features seem to be implemented very poorly (training), but overall I like the direction SI is taking with the match engine."

A third said, "Great match engine. Loving the on/off possession feature. Actually not hating the UI nearly as much as most, although I wouldn't go as far as saying I prefer it to the old one either.

"Really the only things that bother me are the bugs and lack of data during matches."

Others are hopeful that the user interface will be amended in the coming weeks.

"I enjoy the new match engine and I believe the UI will be patched over time," one fan said. "I can see the potential, just gotta be patient."

Another shared, "UI is in a somewhat rough state, but has potential. It's not bad, and it'll get better."

So, where can you get a hold of the new game, and when can you expect updates? Find out more below.

What else is new about Football Manager 26?

Football Manager 25 was famously cancelled, so a lot rides on the latest instalment. Powered by the Unity engine, the 2026 game boasts new UI tools and 'enhanced graphic fidelity' for better gameplay and user experience.

But as mentioned above, lots of gamers think the 2026 edition has a long way to go in terms of its user interface - with one Reddit user going so far as to saying it's a 'step back' in comparison to previous editions.

From tactical innovation to greater on-pitch detail and the long-awaited inclusion of women's football, discover its top features below.
