The latest edition of EA Sports FC has been officially released today but a doctor has warned players who play video games for prolonged periods could be increasing their chances of a particular sexual health problem.

FC 25 officially hit the shops today, though players who have early access have been able to play it for the past seven days.

The game from EA Sports has been launched on a variety of platforms including Playstation 5, Playstation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Windows.

The popular franchise was previously known as FIFA, with the final game under that name being FIFA 23, and the long-term licensing agreement concluded in 2022.

With the game being released to a widespread audience, it would be fair to say those who have just got their hands on the title could have some long sessions in front of a screen as they get stuck into the latest offering from the franchise.

But doing that comes with a word of warning from a doctor, who has warned gamers who spend a long time in front of the screen could come with medical consequences, including one which could be a problem in the bedroom.

Doctor Ashwin Sharma has quoted a study from 2016 which suggests men playing video games for more than five hours per day become three times more likely to experience erectile dysfunction (ED) when compared to those who spend under an hour doing the same.

They have issued some tips to gamers for how they can help improve their blood circulation and therefore improve their long-term sexual health, such as getting up and moving around every hour.

Doctor Sharma said: "With any major game release, it's common for gamers to spend extended hours sitting in front of screens.

"However, many may be unaware of the long-term impact a sedentary lifestyle can have on their overall health, particularly their sexual health. Prolonged sitting and lack of physical activity can negatively affect circulation and cardiovascular health, which are critical for maintaining sexual function.

"Prolonged periods of sitting and reduced physical activity can lead to poor cardiovascular health. Over time, this directly impairs blood flow to various parts of the body, including the penis, and can contribute to erectile dysfunction.

"To support both their physical and sexual health, gamers must ensure they take regular breaks and incorporate physical activity into their gaming session, especially if they plan to be gaming extensively.

"I recommend getting up and moving around for at least 5-10 minutes every hour to help improve circulation, reduce the risks associated with prolonged sitting, and enhance overall well-being.

"In addition to these short breaks, integrating daily exercise, proper hydration, and a balanced diet will contribute to better cardiovascular health, energy levels, and long-term sexual health."
