The Top Five Players In FIFA 06 Were Pretty Special

Unless your name is Manuel Neuer, if you're a goalkeeper or defender then it's pretty hard to crack the top five best rated players on any FIFA installment.

That's why FIFA 06's top five players is something special.

In the latest edition of the popular EA Sports franchise, Cristiano Ronaldo (94) edged out Lionel Messi (93) as the best rated player in the game.

Messi's club colleagues Neymar and Luis Suarez followed in third and fourth with Bayern's No.1 making up the top five.

The German stopper breaks the mold having featured in the top five in the past three FIFA's.

But what we're trying to get at is the difficulty to be among the games elite players if you're not an attacker.

Enter FIFA 06 - keepers rejoice.

The September 2005 copy (which had Wayne Rooney and Ronaldinho bestowed with the honour of cover image) had not one but THREE goalkeepers in the top five.

Yes, three.

Juventus's Gianluigi Buffon, Real Madrid's Iker Casillas and Chelsea's Petr Cech were only bettered by each other and the Brazilian maestro.

A massive 95 rating a-piece for Buffon and Casillas while Cech was rated 94 with Inter Milan's Adriano rounding off the fearsome five.

Is the goalkeeping talent pool deep enough for this feat to be replicated in any future FIFA releases?
