Robert Lewandowski's Original FIFA Card Was Ridiculously Bad

Robert Lewandowski's Original FIFA Card Was Ridiculously Bad

The Bayern Munich goal machine has come a long way

It's hard to think of Robert Lewandowski as anything other than a relentless goal scoring machine, with the Polish hitman now a regular fixture in the upper echelons of the European Golden Shoe standings for the past five years.

However, the Borussia Dortmund man hasn't always been a world renowned 30+ goals a season striker (although his records with Znicz Pruszków and Lech Poznan aren't exactly shabby), and his first ever FIFA card reflects just how little was known about the future captain of Poland back in 2009.

Eight years ago marked the first appearance of Lewandowski in EA Sports' behemoth of a franchise and the then Lech Poznan striker's rating was a far cry from the 90 he received for the latest edition, released in September of last year.

In fact, Lewandowski was awarded a mere 71 rating back in 2009 which, on the face of it, doesn't sound all that bad, but just take a closer look at the breakdown of the Bayern man's stats and you'll notice just how shockingly low they were, especially in comparison with how EA have rated Marouane Fellaini during last year's release.

We'll be honest, we'd still trust 2009 Lewandowski in front of goal more than 2017 Fellaini. Image: Dream Team FC

Just for extra clarity, this shows that EA Sports rate Marouane 'First touch with my chest is better than with my feet' Fellaini as a better finisher than a striker in the middle of his second consecutive 20+ goal season.

Lewandowski's heading ability wasn't up to much in FIFA 10, either, with the Bundesliga winning forward only scoring a measly 62 rating, while his passing and dribbling weren't exactly up to much, either.

Now compare his first card with his most recent base card which, with an update for yet another imperious season in front of goal, has been improved to a 94 rating.

The 28-year-old was once a Volcanic ash cloud away from joining Blackburn Rovers. Fortunately for Lewandowski, the Icelandic volcano responsible refused to pipe down, so the Polish striker ended up at Borussia Dortmund, where his German silverware collection began in earnest with back-to-back Bundesliga titles and a DFB Pokal, for good measure.

This season, Lewandowski has scored a remarkable 36 goals in 39 games for Carlo Ancelotti's team, who have once again raced clear at the summit of the Bundesliga and also advanced to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
