Frenkie de Jong's girlfriend jokes about coming to Manchester United

The Barcelona midfielder rejected every attempt from the Premier League side last summer, but he'll be at Old Trafford soon.

Frenkie de Jong's girlfriend has answered the latest question about the midfielder moving to Manchester United, after last summer's long transfer saga.

The first time De Jong's name was linked with United last summer was May 11th, before the season had even finished, with the original report claiming the move was very close to being done.

What followed was well over three months of reports about whether or not the move was going to get done, with Erik ten Hag clearly desperate to sign the player.

De Jong was just as desperate to stay and so the Premier League club had to look elsewhere, eventually landing on Casemiro, which hasn't exactly looked like a bad alternative, even with his recent red card.

The recent injury to Christian Eriksen, along with Casemiro's suspension, has shown that United are still light in midfield options and maybe they'll reignite their interest for De Jong in the summer.

Certainly one fan of the club is hoping that will be the case, asking the Dutchman's girlfriend, Mikky Kiemeney, when he might be joining.

During a social media Q&A the fan posed the question, "When's Frenkie coming to Manchester?" with Kiemeney posting a picture of the upcoming fixtures and simply answering "23/2 I guess."

In fairness to her, she's not wrong either, with Barca and United set to play each other in the Europa League play off round in the next couple of weeks.

United fans are unhappy that they have to face the extra two legged tie, due to finishing second in the group, after they lost at home to Real Sociedad after a very harsh handball decision.

The tie means they have a ridiculous upcoming fixture list, not helped by played Leeds United on Wednesday, in a game delayed by the Queen's death last year.

It's not like Xavi and his team will be over the moon at being in the match either, having dropped down from the Champions League after finishing behind Bayern Munich and Inter Milan in their group.

Ironically one reason De Jong wasn't impressed with a move to Old Trafford was their lack of Champions League participation in the current campaign.

The Catalan giants are riding high at the top of La Liga, and are now eight points clear of closest rivals Real Madrid, following the weekend's results.

United may think about dreaming of a first title win in 10 years after the weekend's results, with both Arsenal and Manchester City losing, although they are still eight points off the top.
