Manchester City are rumoured to have been offered the highly-rated Barcelona forward Ansu Fati by the player's agent, Jorge Mendes.

That's according to Diario SPORT, who claim that Mendes is pressuring the powers that be at the Nou Camp into renewing Fati's contract by teasing his services to former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola.

Fati, who now wears the number 10 shirt at the club after Lionel Messi's departure in the summer, is considered to be one of the most promising young players in world football. Since making his debut for the first team in 2019, Fati has scored 11 goals in 31 games and has made 4 appearances for the Spanish national side.

He is yet to make an appearance for Ronald Koeman's men so far this season, with the latter saying Fati's return from injury will significantly help his squad moving forwards.

"Of course, we will have more difficulties to score goals," he told ESPN when asked how the club would cope in Messi's absence this season. "It's not always one player, you have to do it together. Hopefully, we get players back from injury like Ansu Fati and Coutinho and then we still have a strong squad.

We did a good pre-season, we have young players in, but if we get all the players back from injury the squad is still a strong one."

After failing to land Tottenham's Harry Kane this summer, City may see Fati as the successor to former Sergio Agüero, who incidentally is now at Barcelona. With pace to burn and real prowess in the penalty area, Fati would fit Guardiola's style of play perfectly and give the champions further ammunition in an already outstanding attack.

One City fan who agrees that the club should be looking for a younger striker to lead the line in the future is rock legend Noel Gallagher. The former Oasis man believes the club should turn to Borussia Dortmund front man Erling Haaland.

"Haaland- there's things to work on there," he told talkSPORT yesterday. "He could be the beast of all beasts. When we heard our chairman say at the end of the Champions League that we were going to go out and we're going to buy and we're going to spend, nobody thought Jack Grealish. We thought it was going to be a super striker.

£160 million for Kane was too much. Nobody at City wanted to pay that much- if it was £100 million, then fair enough. But I think for City fans... we all want Haaland, just for the potential that he gives you."

With Mendes involved and Manchester City in desperate need of a striker, expect to hear more about this potential transfer over the next 12 months.
