Wrexham could lose one of their key players as a top club has been linked with a surprise move in January.

The story of Wrexham AFC is now one known throughout the sporting world, as the club rose from the national league up to the championship in an incredible campaign through English football.

After being bought in November 2020 by Hollywood stars Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds, the Welsh club have become one of the most recognisable clubs outside of the Premier League.

Therefore, Wrexham have been able to attract some star players in recent years, helping them in their dream of reaching the English top flight in the near future.

However, any hopes of making it into the play-offs this season could be completely ruined as a key player has been linked with a transfer away from the club.

Over the summer, Wrexham secured the signing of forward Josh Windass, who joined as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Sheffield Wednesday.

The 31-year-old penned a three-year deal with the Red Dragons, keeping him there until the end of the 2027/28 season, and has gone on to impress across 21 appearances for his new club.

But it appears this time could be cut short, as a report from GiveMeSport has revealed that Windass' former club Rangers have made a surprise approach to re-sign the Wrexham star.

As it stands, Rangers are struggling in the Scottish Premiership, sitting fourth in the table and 12 points behind league leaders Hearts.

A key issue for the Gers is finding a source of more goals, and it is believed that Windass could provide the perfect solution.

The report claims that Rangers have made a loan enquiry to Wrexham for January with by Windass' former boss Danny Rohl said to be keen to make it happen.

Windass spent six seasons at Sheffield Wednesday, scoring 50 times, with his final two seasons at Hillsborough being under Rohl.

The Engllishman plauyed for Rangers between 2016 and 2018, with his best season being the 2017/18 that saw him score 18 goals across all competitions in, with 13 of them being in the Scottish Championship.

However, the report adds that Wrexham are not believed to be open to sanctioning an exit and it therefore remains to be seen if Windass wants to encourage a move back to the Ibrox.
