West Ham forward Michail Antonio has undergone surgery on a 'lower limb fracture' suffered in a road traffic accident, the club have confirmed.

The 34-year-old was involved in the accident on Saturday, with alleged images of the car he was driving appearing on social media.

While it has not been confirmed as to whether the images were in fact of Antonio's car, West Ham did confirm that he had been airlifted to hospital after being involved in an accident and was in a 'stable condition'.

Now, West Ham have announced that Antonio has undergone surgery in hospital and will continue to be monitored over the coming days.

The full statement reads: "West Ham United can confirm Michail Antonio has undergone surgery on a lower limb fracture following a road traffic accident on Saturday afternoon.

"Michail will continue to be monitored in hospital over the coming days.

"Everyone at the Club wishes Michail a speedy recovery and wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the football family at large for the overwhelming support shown since yesterday's news, as well as extending a heartfelt thank you to the emergency services and first responders who attended to Michail in the immediate aftermath of the incident, and the medical team who continue to aid him in his recovery."

Antonio has made 14 Premier League appearances for West Ham this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

His most recent appearance was in Tuesday's 3-1 defeat at Leicester, where he played 29 minutes as a substitute.

He is one of the Hammers' longest-serving players, having signed for the club from Nottingham Forest in 2015.

In total, the 34-year-old has netted 83 goals in 323 appearances in all competitions for the London club.

At international level, he was called up to England squads on three separate occasions but failed to receive his first cap. He subsequently pledged allegiance to Jamaica and has made 21 appearances for them, scoring five goals.
