Wayne Rooney Says TV Character 'Made Him Get The Snip' Down Below

This wasn't on our 2025 bingo card.

Mr Tumble, one of the most beloved characters in children's television, has been called out by Manchester United's record goalscorer Wayne Rooney – a sentence nobody had on their 2025 bingo card.

Justin Fletcher has played the character of Mr Tumble for more than two decades. He is a household name in the UK, with his antics on the CBeebies channel being appreciated by millions of young children.

Many have tuned into his Something Special show over the years, including Wayne Rooney and his four sons – Kai, Klay, Kit, and Cass.

Kai, who has gone on to play for Manchester United at youth level, often watched Mr Tumble in the early 2010s, although Wayne wasn't exactly a huge fan of the children's entertainer and comedian.

In fact, the former England international said Tumble was "the reason he got the snip" as he spoke about the character during an amusing segment on The Wayne Rooney Show podcast.

As seen in the clip below, Rooney was recalling fond memories of a trip to Butlins in Skegness when host Kelly Somers mentioned Mr Tumble making appearances at the resort.

“I hate Mr Tumble,” said Rooney. “I was in the dressing room for Match of the Day, and his dressing room was next to me; Justin his name isn’t it?

"And the reason I hate him – I don’t hate him and what he does – but I’ve had to sit through it four times. Every kid. I’ve been through him four times. It’s got to the point now where I just can’t."

"He’s the reason I got the snip," Rooney joked. "I couldn’t have another kid to go through it again.”

Steve Bracknell, the comedian and assistant manager of Royal Oak FC, would soon make an accurate prediction. “There’s your headline," he said. "Mr Tumble made me have the snip – Wayne Rooney”.

Wayne Rooney's response after teacher tried to 'smash' him in school game

Known for his no-nonsense style of play on the pitch, Rooney recently revealed how he injured his son’s teacher in a school game.

"I played in a school game. It was me, Steve McManaman and Phil Jagielka playing against the teachers, and the whole school stood around the pitch. You feel there’s an expectation of you to do something," Rooney said on The Wayne Rooney Show.

"I actually dislocated one of the teacher’s shoulders. He was a substitute teacher. He was really young. I think he worked at Manchester City, and he was going around trying to smash everyone.

"It was the dads versus the teachers, and he was coming to me and I just shoulder-barged him. He’s gone down, and his shoulder was down there, so I felt really bad."

Rooney says the kids were "buzzing" by the unfolding events, while his son, Kai, was not as pleased. "Kai was on the sideline," Rooney laughed. "He was like, “No, not that one! Go for the biology teacher!"
