Viktor Gyokeres transfer bombshell drops and it's disastrous for Arsenal as emergency back-up plan revealed

A huge bombshell in the Viktor Gyokeres saga.

Arsenal's hopes of signing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP this summer could be in serious jeopardy following a new bombshell report from Portugal.

Gyokeres' future has been the topic on everyone's lips during this year's transfer window, with the Swede scoring 97 goals in 102 matches over the previous two seasons.

Arsenal have been tracking the 27-year-old alongside Manchester United this summer, but appeared to have won the race after reports from The Athletic that a deal for the striker was advancing.

However, recent reports have thrown a spanner in the works with reports in Portugal via The Daily Mail claiming negotiations have now stalled with Arsenal representatives returning from Lisbon after failed talks with Sporting.

These concerns have grown even further on Thursday as an Arsenal source told A BOLA that the club are set to walk away from a deal to sign the striker following stalling negotiations.

The report claims Arsenal will take a significant step back from the deal despite previously admitting some willingness to raise the stakes even higher.

This news will be a nightmare for Gyokeres himself who has offered to give up a significant chunk of his salary to help secure his move to the Premier League.

“Viktor Gyökeres has agreed to give up €2m from his salary in order to facilitate negotiations between Arsenal and Sporting,” Fabrizio Romano wrote.

Arsenal's Viktor Gyokeres back-up plan

If Arsenal fail to complete the signing of Gyokeres, it is almost certain Mikel Arteta will turn his attention back to RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko following confirmed talks for the 22-year-old last month.

Speaking on Wednesday, Fabrizio Romano did confirm that talks between Arsenal and Leipzig had stopped while the club stepped up their interest in Gyokeres.

“At the moment, it has gone quiet as the focus is on Gyokeres," He said via GIVEMESPORT.

Sesko would likely be a more expensive option for the Gunners with the Bundesliga side holding a fee of around £77 million, compared to the reported £70 million price tag for Gyokeres.
