Spurs slammed for "loser mentality" after full-time scenes following 4-1 loss to Chelsea

Spurs slammed for "loser mentality" after full-time scenes following 4-1 loss to Chelsea

Down to nine men, Spurs suffered a first defeat of the season at the hands of Chelsea on Monday night.

Spurs have been slammed for displaying "loser mentality" following the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea, with some fans comparing it to Liverpool's infamous celebrations after a 2-2 draw with West Brom.

Ange Postecoglou's side suffered a first league defeat of the season one of the most chaotic matches in recent memory.

Spurs started superbly and went 1-0 up through Dejan Kulusevski's deflected strike but then it all seemed to go wrong for the hosts.

Cristian Romero was sent off and conceded a penalty for a shocking challenge on Enzo Fernandez, with Cole Palmer converting the spot-kick.

They lost both Micky van de Ven and James Maddison to injury and ended up going down to nine men when Destiny Udogie made a second stupid tackle on Raheem Sterling.

The crazy clash had five disallowed goals and the highest defensive line you've ever seen from Spurs.

Eventually, Chelsea made the most of the two-man advantage and Nicolas Jackson scored a 20-minute hat-trick for Mauricio Pochettino's side.

Spurs' efforts could not be faulted and they had an Eric Dier strike chalked off for offside, as well as a narrow miss from Rodrigo Bentancur.

The home fans remained behind their team and players were applauded off after the final whistle.

It wasn't quite Jurgen Klopp's gesture to the Kop after that 2015 draw with West Brom but plenty of people were critical of the ovation.

One Spurs supporter said: "We give an ovation for a 4-1 loss. Embarrassing."

A second user said: "Funniest club."

A third didn't hold back, writing: "Loser mentality right there. demand better."

Another added: "Our mentality is we give an ovation for a 4-1 loss. disgusting behaviour from our fans."

A fifth commented: "Celebrating losers and headloss."

Spurs will look to bounce back immediately from the set-back on Saturday as they host Wolves at Molineux.
