Tottenham Hotspur used a unique 0-7-1 formation after going down to nine men against Chelsea.

The London Stadium bore witness to a chaotic, but brilliant derby on Monday evening, as VAR took centre stage once again in the Premier League.

The hosts looked to be running away with it after Dejan Kulusevski opened the scoring inside six minutes.

However, Cristian Romero's reckless lunge on Enzo Fernandez in the 18-yard box turned the game on its' head. A lengthy VAR review ensued, before the Tottenham defender was shown his marching orders and Cole Palmer equalised from the spot.

Spurs were then reduced to nine men after Destiny Udogie left a little bit too much in on Raheem Sterling and was brandished a second booking.

But what happened afterwards will have fascinated football fans all around the world, with Ange Postecoglou's side deploying a 0-7-1 formation to help defend against the Blues.

It looked to be working up until the 75th minute, when Nicolas Jackson rolled the ball home from close range after a swift Chelsea counter-attack.

The Senegalese striker then scored his first Premier League hat-trick as Mauricio Pochettino's side were able to break down their opponent's ridiculously high line.

Former Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the formation, tweeting: "Highest defensive line I’ve ever seen in my life."
