Radu Dragusin's agent says he 'can't believe' the player picked Tottenham over another club

Radu Dragusin's agent says he 'can't believe' the player picked Tottenham over another club

Dragusin's agent has commented.

The agent of defender Radu Dragusin has said that he 'can't believe' the Romania international turned down another club to join Tottenham - adding it is the 'right step' for his career.

The 21-year-old centre-back is set to move to Spurs from Italian side Genoa as their first permanent signing of the window, following the arrival of Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig on Tuesday.

The two clubs reportedly reached an agreement worth £25.9 million plus add-ons for the defender, with Spurs right-back Djed Spence going the other way on loan after his temporary stay at Leeds was terminated.

Dragusin was also linked with Bayern Munich, and the German club put in an improved bid of £26.7 million in an attempt to beat Spurs to his signature.

But the Romania international turned down a move to the Allianz Arena in favour of Spurs, with the transfer to be announced shortly.

And while his agent admitted his disbelief at turning down Bayern, he explained the defender's thought process: "It was ultimately what Radu and his family wanted. He is happy. We're going to Tottenham!

"He didn't choose the money. There was more at Bayern. He said this is the right step for his career.

"He chose his career before money, and that is commendable. I don't know how many would have refused the offer he had from Bayern. There were many who didn't think we were turning down Bayern.

"There was quite a difference. Almost half as much, if not more, but never mind the accounts. They were never a priority.

"We always choose the steps we think are right. I think he weighed that he always wanted to get to the Premier League."

As far as first introductions to a new signing go, Spurs fans will surely be delighted with this one.

Once he does sign on the dotted line, Dragusin will have to compete with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven - when the trio are all fully fit - for a spot at centre-back, while he can also fill in at full-back if needed.
