Mathys Tel reveals what Harry Kane told him to convince him to join Tottenham as private conversation revealed

Mathys Tel left Bayern Munich to sign for Harry Kane's former club Bayern Munich on transfer deadline day.

Mathys Tel has revealed what Harry Kane told him ahead of making the move from Bayern Munich to Spurs on transfer deadline day.

The Frenchman was heavily courted by both Manchester United and Spurs going into the final stretch of the transfer window, with the former said to be close to agreeing a loan deal.

However, it was then reported that United did not want to pay the £5 million loan fee Bayern were demanding and considered it an "expensive risk", ultimately deciding against tabling a formal offer.

That meant Spurs had a clear path to bring in the 19-year-old and completed the deal on 3 February after a whole of speculation about his future.

Spurs have the option to purchase Tel outright for a fee of £47.5 million at the end of the season and it's been claimed that he was initially sceptical about joining the club until Ange Postecoglou stepped in and convinced him to sign after a lengthy phone call.

Tel has struggled for gametime under Vincent Kompany, starting just two games out of 14 in the Bundesliga.

He has played second fiddle to England skipper Kane, but the 31-year-old, Spurs' record goalscorer, has spoken to Tel about his new surroundings.

"Yes he told me this is a big club with a lot of very good people," Tel told Spurs' official social media channels when asked if he had been in contact with Kane.

"The pitch is very nice, the training centre is very good. And if you go there you can enjoy it. So everything was positive."

Tel, who can play in multiple positions across the forward line, will take the vacant No.11 shirt and will provide a timely boost to their attack at a time where £60 million summer signing Dominic Solanke is currently out injured.

He becomes the club's fourth signing of the window, following on from the arrivals of Antonin Kinsky, Kevin Danso and Min-hyeok Yang.

Tel could make his debut in the Carabao Cup semi final second leg against Liverpool providing international clearance is received in time, though he does not need to be named in the Premier League squad because he is Under 21.
