Thomas Partey charged with two new counts of rape as police issue statement

The additional charges follow a new investigation by the Metropolitan Police.

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with two new counts of rape.

The Ghana international, 32, was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault in July.

Those charges involve three women, with two counts of rape relating to one woman, three counts of rape relating to a second woman, and one count of sexual assault related to a third woman.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges during an appearance at Southwark Crown Court in September, and faces trial on November 2, 2026.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) have now authorised two additional counts of rape against Partey following a new investigation by the Metropolitan Police.

A Met Police statement (via The Telegraph) reads: "These new charges relate to a separate report of non-recent offences in 2020 involving one additional woman and follow a new investigation by the Metropolitan Police.

"These allegations were first reported in August 2025."

Partey will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on March 13 in relation to the new charges.

The midfielder is currently playing for La Liga side Villarreal, having signed for the Spanish club after his Arsenal contract expired at the end of June.

He has made 21 appearances for Villarreal across all competitions, including five in the Champions League, this season.

At the time of the initial charges, an Arsenal spokesperson stated: "The player's contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings the club is unable to comment on the case."

After he was signed by Villarreal, the Spanish club stated: "The club is aware that the player is currently involved in legal proceedings in England.

"The player firmly maintains his innocence and denies all charges against him. The club respects the fundamental principle of the presumption of innocence and will await the outcome of the judicial process, which will be responsible for clarifying the facts of the case.

"Due to the law in England in relation to ongoing proceedings, the club is unable to comment further."
