Sir Alex Ferguson's Honest Verdict on Man City and Arsenal Title Race

Sir Alex Ferguson has already given his honest verdict on how he would view a Premier League title race between Manchester City and Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta's Gunners currently sit on top of the table heading into the weekend's fixtures.

They have picked up 19 points from their eight matches so far this season, recording wins over Manchester United and Newcastle.

They drew 1-1 at home to Manchester City in September, with their only loss being a 1-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield.

City, meanwhile, are now in second having recovered from a relatively slow start to the campaign.

They lost two of their first three matches but, aided particularly by the signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma and the form of Erling Haaland, have won four of their last five games, conceding just twice.

Pep Guardiola's side, who travel to the West Midlands to take on Aston Villa on Sunday, are three points behind Arsenal, who host Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on the same day.

It looks increasingly likely that the Premier League title race will be contested between Arsenal, City and third-placed Liverpool - though it is still far too early to rule out other contenders, such as Chelsea, from potentially being in a position to challenge.

Ahead of the title run-in during the 2023/24 season, which saw City win ahead of Arsenal as their closest contender, Ferguson was asked by ITV Racing about which of the two teams he would prefer to see lift the trophy.

And his answer spoke volumes.

He simply stated: "I'm not interested."

Interviewer Matt Chapman responded: "Sensible. Very sensible. You know the game, don't you, Sir Alex?"

If Chapman was trying to coax any further response out of Ferguson, it didn't work, as the Scot continued to stare back at him before eventually breaking out into laughter.

Ferguson's former club Manchester United are currently in ninth place, having recorded back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time under Ruben Amorim.

Last Sunday's 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield has created hopes that the club may have turned a career after a lengthy lack of consistency under Amorim.

But they will need to back that victory up by recording a positive result over Brighton, whom they host at Old Trafford on Saturday.
