An incident between a manager and a player from a Serie C match has left fans lost for words.

On Friday night, Triestina was up against Giana Erminio in a Serie C clash at the Stadio Nereo Rocco.

The visitors came away 1-0 winners thanks to a goal from Gabriel Avinci in the 87th minute.

With 33 minutes on the clock, Triestina were reduced to 10-men after Latvian Raimonds Krollis went sent off for a dangerous challenge.

However, we happened after was what fans were most shocked about.

As Krollis walked off the pitch, his manager Pep Clotet was seen confronting him and even laid hands on the 23-year-old. You can watch the footage below.

Speaking after the match, Clotet stated that what Krollis did was unacceptable.

As reported by Nine News, the Spaniard said: "My gesture was right for what happened. What Krollis did is unacceptable. It damages Triestina, the club he represents and football in general.

"Giana Erminio surprised us with their tactical attitude, but we managed to recover and get into the game until the expulsion. Obviously, they then managed the game, but we, in numerical inferiority, fought and tried until the end."

Clotet added: "We need to develop a more careful mentality. We need to know how to manage the crucial moments of the games, and this is an individual aspect.

"We lack understanding of situations. Sometimes we risk needlessly. The commitment was there. We defended well even if we conceded an avoidable goal for a lost ball that we should have managed better."

Before taking charge of Trestina, Clotet had spells at the likes of Cornella, Espanyol, Figueres, Halmstad, Atletico Malagueno and also managed English sides Oxford United and Birmingham City.

After losing to Giana Erminio, Trestina stay bottom of the Serie C table, one point behind 19th placed Union Clodiense.

Clotet's men will be back in Serie C action next weekend when they take on FeralpiSalo at the Stadio Lino Turina.
