Fans can’t quite get their heads around the club that Ronaldinho’s son has just signed for.

During what was a truly illustrious career, Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho played for the likes of Paris Saint Germain, Barcelona and AC Milan.

The 44-year-old also won the Ballon d’Or once and was named FIFA World Player of the Year on two occasions.

Ronaldinho ended his playing career back in 2015 after playing for Brazilian club Fluminense.

Ronaldinho’s son, Joao Mendes, 19, played for the likes of Flamengo, Vasco de Gama, Boavista-RJ and Cruzeiro before joining Barcelona’s youth set-up in 2023.

However, fans have been left in shock after it was reported that Mendes had signed for English Championship club Burnley.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano wrote on social media: “Ronaldinho’s son João Mendes has signed in as new Burnley player.”

Reacting on social media, one fan said: “Nah how’s this happened then. The son of THE Ronaldinho is now a BURNLEY player???”

Another tweeted: “Ronaldinho’s Son, João Mendes has signed for Burnley. I repeat, RONALDINHO’S SON has signed for BURNLEY FOOTBALL CLUB. WHAT.”

A third fan added: “Ronaldinho’s Son, João Mendes has actually signed for Burnley. Wow.”

Someone else wrote: “João Mendes, son of Ronaldinho, has signed for Burnley from Barcelona. Can't wait to see the big man turn up for a game at Turf Moor this season…”

A fifth commented: “Ronaldinho turning up to Turf Moor on a freezing cold Wednesday night in February to watch his son play against Hull is what football is all about.”

Another fan added: “A sentence nobody ever thought they’d say.”

Back in February 2023, after playing for Barcelona’s U19 team in a 3-1 win over Manchester United, president Joan Laporta said of Mendes: “We want Ronaldinho's son to continue his career here.

“We will make him a contract offer. The other day we spoke with his agent and he has to close some things in Brazil first.”
