Video shows Rasmus Hojlund being hit in the back after claiming he was 'targeted' by San Marino players

Video shows Rasmus Hojlund being hit in the back after claiming he was 'targeted' by San Marino players

Rasmus Hojlund says he was 'targeted' by San Marino players.

Rasmus Hojlund says he was 'targeted' by San Marino players during Denmark's Euro 2024 qualifier.

Hojlund scored in his side's 2-1 victory over San Marino on Tuesday as the minnows scored their first competitive goal in two years.

The Manchester United star opened the scoring with a thunderous goal just before the break. Alessandro Golinucci cancelled out his strike just after the hour mark.

But San Marino couldn't hold on for the point as Yussuf Poulsen headed home to put Denmark back in front.

However, they left their mark on Hojlund who came out battered and bruised from the fixture.

He claims to be 'targeted' by San Marino players and understood what they were saying in Italian.

The young Dane picked up a knock in the 89th minute before being replaced in stoppage time.

The player, who has been treating a back problem, received a hefty challenge from behind as the opposition seemingly 'targeted' that area of his body.

Speaking after the game, the 20-year-old said: "They targeted me today, as you can see at the end. I understand Italian and I could hear them saying that they had the idea to crush me."

He added: "You can see from the images that he only had one idea in mind. A yellow card is a joke."

Erik ten Hag has been handed a fresh injury scare as he's already without some of his key players at Man United.

Ten Hag and Man United fans alike will be hoping Hojlund's injury is nothing serious ahead of the Red Devils resuming their Premier League campaign on Saturday.

They travel to Sheffield United as the forward looks to score his first league goal since his £72 million transfer during the summer.

Hojlund, though, has three goals to his name this season, having scored them all in the Champions League.
