For the first time in two decades, St James' Park park is playing host to a Champions League fixture involving Newcastle United – and the atmosphere ahead of kick-off was louder than ever before.

Eddie Howe's side are finally back in Europe's elite competition after coming fourth in last season's Premier League campaign.

The Magpies managed to earn a very respectable point in their opening Group F clash against AC Milan on September 19, as former Rossoneri midfielder Sandro Tonali returned to the San Siro.

And on Wednesday night, the atmosphere was crackling inside St James' Park as Wor Flags displayed a quite remarkable display ahead of their second group game against Paris Saint-Germain.

Soon, the iconic Champions League anthem played to the 52,000 fans in attendance. Even Kylian Mbappe looked taken back by the noise. How good is this?

Speaking to TNT Sports ahead of kick-off, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe opened up about Wednesday's clash against Ligue 1 champions PSG.

"It's always about the game. It's not the occasion, it's the detail behind how we play. So we've got to get that right.

"They've changed their team slightly, so we're gonna have to be tactically aware of what they're going to do. But then we have to hurt them ourselves and I think we've got the players to do it.

"I just hope that we have a good start in the match. I think that will really set us down."
