Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier has explained his heated exchange with fans after the final whistle.

On Saturday, Newcastle were beaten by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium after a brace from Cherries striker Dominic Solanke sealed a 2-0 victory.

After the final whistle was blown, Trippier was caught having a heated exchange with the travelling Magpies fans.

Speaking during an interview after the match, the full-back explained the altercation to Sky Sports.

He said: “The fans are emotional, of course they are. They have travelled a long way, they spend a lot of money to come and watch us.

“I was just having a chat with one of them, I said we are giving everything. There is no need to panic, we are still in a good position in the league, we are still in the Champions League, Carabao Cup quarter-finals, there is no need to panic. We got beat, we do apologise for that result, but the most important thing is that the lads are giving everything. We are giving more under the circumstances.”

Speaking about the overall result, Trippier told Premier League Productions: "I would not say it is a shock, Bournemouth are a good team you always respect the opposition and they played a good game today and we were not ourselves.

"We have to think about it over the international break and come back. Bournemouth had a good game plan and deserved to win the game."

With the international break coming up, this is the chance to allow any injured players to try and regain full fitness ahead of what will be a busy and intense period for Newcastle with the Champions League, Carabao Cup and the Premier League all on the line.

The Magpies' first match after the international break will be a tough home clash against Mauricio Pochettino's Chelsea on November 25.
