Newcastle United fans are furious with one player for how they performed during a key moment of their 2-2 draw with Chelsea.

A busy day of Premier League football got off to an exciting start on Saturday afternoon as Newcastle United and Chelsea drew 2-2 at St James' Park.

After a dominant first half performance, the home side saw boasted a 2-0 lead heading into the break, with a brace scored by summer signing Nick Woltemade putting them ahead.

However, the Magpies were unable to hold on to their lead as goals from Reece James and Joao Pedro saw the two sides split the points.

Shortly after Pedro's goal tied up the match, Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe made three major substitutions to try to put his side ahead in the final moments of the game.

In the 73rd minute, Harvey Barnes, Yoane Wissa and Anthony Elanga were brought onto the pitch, but the three ultimately couldn't find a vital goal to win the match.

Elanga came the closest to finding a late winner as in the 89th minute he had found himself through on goal with only Marc Cucurella and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez to stop him, but he ultimately put the shot wide, infuriating Newcastle fans.

Reacting to the moment, one fan on social media platform wrote: "Elanga is one of the worst signings we've ever made. He's like the second coming of Gabriel Obertan!"

With another claiming: "I hate low IQ players. Elanga is a low IQ player."

Many frustrated Newcastle fans frustrated pointed out that, at the moment Elanga took the shot, he could have passed the ball to Barnes, who was unmarked in the centre of the box, and set up an almost-certain winning goal.

Another fan added: "Elanga’s decision-making continues to look very poor. Should’ve won it with a simple pass across in that last counter-attack but went for goal himself."

Elanga is still searching for his first goal for Newcastle United since joining from Nottingham Forest over the summer for a reported £55million transfer fee.
