Fans brand Callum Wilson a hypocrite after comments about Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario

Callum Wilson has come under fire for his post-match comments after Newcastle United were defeated by Tottenham Hotspur

Newcastle United star Callum Wilson has been branded a hypocrite after he made comments about Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

On Sunday evening, Spurs ran out 4-1 winners against Newcastle thanks to a brace from Richarlison plus goals from Son Heung Min and Destiny Udogie. Joelinton was the scorer for the Magpies.

After the defeat, Wilson criticised Spurs goalkeeper Vicario during his post-match interview.

He said: “There's a way to win. We saw it in the week where Everton were winning and Pickford was messing around.

“The goalkeeper, I've had a header, he starts pulling faces and messing around and it's a lack of respect, I thought. I've said my piece, we're grown men and we move on.”

However, Wilson’s comments have not gone down well after Wilson appeared to mock Richarlison when speaking on The Footballer’s Football Podcast alongside West Ham United man Michail Antonio.

Antonio said: “He's scored four times this season. Three of the times he's been offside [and] he's taken his top off four times this season.”

Wilson added: “He's got four yellows – he's almost on a suspension.”

The pair then started laughing as they chatted about Richarlison.

Reacting to Wilson’s latest comments on Sunday, one fan said: “Callum Wilson will go on radio shows and disrespect fellow professionals, make fun of them but making faces is where he draws the line.”

Another tweeted: “Swear you literally chatted sh*t about Richarlison and you're tryna talk about being professional and showing respect.”

A third fan added: “Talking about respect. What about this clowns podcast!!!”

Someone else wrote: “Hypocrite, didn’t he disrespect Richarlison on his podcast?”

Whilst a fifth commented: “Tears because Richarlison owned him today.”

On the back of the defeat by Spurs, Newcastle remain in seventh place in the Premier League table, one point behind Manchester United and seven points adrift of the top four.
