Newcastle fans are concerned after spotting what Bruno Guimaraes did in the wake of their draw with Brighton.

On Saturday, the Magpies stumbled in their bid to qualify for Europe after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton.

Eddie Howe’s men are now level on points with seventh-placed Chelsea following the Blues’ 3-2 victory at Nottingham Forest, while they lost ground on fifth-placed Tottenham, who claimed a much-needed 2-1 win over Burnley.

And Newcastle’s disappointment was compounded by Guimaraes’ behaviour at full-time.

The Brazilian, who has been linked with a summer transfer, reportedly appeared emotional in what could be his final game as a Newcastle player at St James’ Park.

Writing on X, formally Twitter, one person said: “Not one for scaremongering and was very sceptical that Bruno could be off... but he separated from the group and looked really emotional on the final whistle. Head in his hands [for] ages.”

A second responded: “Noticed that on the TV…. I’m hoping it was more a disappointment in not pushing for 5th or having a major bump in the battle for 6th and he knew it?! I hope.”

A third added: “That’s always going to be the case when you’re still most probably a selling club. Which we arguably still are. Bruno has done wonders at NUFC but he will probably want to go and win trophies now. Good luck to him if so. £100M and reinvest. Good money.”

Another hit back: “Bruno was on the ground at the end due to the fact he was knackered and took a knock on his ankle, I notice you haven’t shown the part where he was pointing at the badge and smiling.”

While Guimaraes’ future is cause for concern, Newcastle boss Howe’s immediate attention will be on Newcastle securing a European spot for next season.

After the game he told Sky Sports: "The performance was good. I have no issues with our general play. Disappointed with the goal we conceded because Brighton are a tough team to play against and the game became a lot harder from that moment. Credit to the players, though, for how they kept going.

"I was very pleased with our goal, I thought that might give us the momentum needed to go and win the game but it just didn't happen."

On the final two games of the campaign, the Newcastle boss added: "Two huge games. The Manchester United game is set up perfectly, that will be massive for us. We'll give everything we can to try and get a positive result. Brentford will take care of itself on the last day. As we've said all along, it's probably going to go right until the end."
