The BBC have decided to axe Match of the Day spin-off MOTDx just weeks after Football Focus hosts Alex Scott and Dan Walker's public spat.

MOTDx, which was fronted by former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas, was originally created to capture a younger audience by mixing football, music and culture.

Confirming their decision to axe the show, a BBC spokesperson explained: "We have made some changes to our football output this season which means we will be producing even more digital content for audiences across BBC Sport platforms.

“Whilst we are proud of MOTDx and would like to thank everyone involved, it will no longer continue.”

The change follows a social media row between Scott and Walker about fellow BBC football programme Football Focus.

Walker, who used to host the show, took to X, formerly known as Twitter to claim that the programme was "struggling".

"It’s hard to see Football Focus struggling," he tweeted. "I loved it growing up and it was an honour to present it and I still miss it.

“We poured everything into that show every week and worked hard to keep it relevant. I hope it stays part of the TV landscape.”

Scott, who subsequently took over from Walker to present the show, replied “interesting” in what appeared to be a dig at her predecessor.

Walker then hit back at the former Arsenal star, adding: “I’m not saying you haven’t [worked hard] Alex. It’s a saturated market and it’s hard work every week. I hope you have a good show today.”
