Michael Owen calls out 'scumbags' in brutal social media post after Match Officials Mic'd Up appearance

Michael Owen calls out 'scumbags' in brutal social media post after Match Officials Mic'd Up appearance

Michael Owen hit out at a media outlet after last night's show.

Michael Owen has hit out at The Daily Mail for their article on his appearance on Match Officials Mic'd Up.

PGMOL boss Howard Webb joined Owen to discuss a number of VAR incidents from the Premier League.

The show, which is simultaneously broadcast on Sky Sports and TNT Sports, gives fans an insight into the process referees and VAR officials go through when making in-game decisions.

Last night's show extensively covered Anthony Gordon's controversial winner against Arsenal as Webb confirmed a new rule.

The PGMOL released the VAR audio of the Newcastle United star's goal in their victory at the start of the month.

But the latest episode of Match Officials Mic'd Up didn't go down well among some fans on social media, with The Daily Mail running a story as they took aim at Webb and Owen.

The former Liverpool forward caught wind of the article and brutally slammed the words written against him as he defended the show.

On X, he wrote: "You’re just scumbags. Always have been. Trawl through a load of messages until you find a couple of negative ones and then create an article. Most people thought the show was insightful and educational. Which is our aim."

Owen also screen-shotted the article in the comments of his post online.

It's the second time this season Webb and Owen have broken down VAR incidents following their show in September.

They already have a number of VAR incidents to walk through when they reconvene next.

Chelsea fans fumed at VAR for allowing the penalty to stand despite Erling Haaland's involvement in the build-up.

And supporters felt Liverpool's Wataru Endo should have been shown a red card for his challenge on Christian Norgaard in their 3-0 win last weekend.
