Wes Brown has disagreed with Paul Scholes after he made a controversial claim following Manchester United's defeat to Newcastle United.
Man United's unbeaten run under Michael Carrick came to an end against Newcastle United, who ran out 2-1 winners in Wednesday's league fixture.
William Osula produced a moment of magic to grab a 90th minute winner to hand Carrick his first defeat since replacing Ruben Amorim in January.
Osula's social media post following his side's dramatic victory included a comment from Rasmus Hojlund, who angered Man United fans.
Scholes was also active on social media following Man United's defeat as he called out Carrick's team, calling them 'crap' in a stinging assessment.
But Brown disagrees with Scholes' verdict, singling out a series of players for praise, including captain Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire.
Wes Brown highlighted Bruno Fernandes' leadership under Michael Carrick's spell at Manchester United. Image: Getty Asked if he agrees with Scholes' sentiment about Man United, Brown told Stake: "No, not at all; You look at Bruno (Fernandes) and he has been consistent as the captain and leading by example on the pitch. He has performed well. I think the defence have tightened up well with Harry Maguire coming back in."
He added: "You look at the difference between when Michael came in and before. Defensively so much stronger. (Bryan) Mbuemo and (Matheus) Cunha has stepped up a notch as well. I think there is still a lot more to give from them.
"And (Benjamin) Sesko, he's finding his feet. He's getting a little bit of that confidence we expected. He's an athlete. You can see he's a really good athlete and he's trying to get goals. He's getting in some really good places. He's got us out of a little bit of trouble as well in games where he's got us a goal.
"But you know what? I think he's thriving on it. He's enjoying it. I think that's the main thing. He wants to do well. That's what he's working on. And he's a young lad. I can only see him getting better. But the main thing is the focus, the mentality is in the right shape and he's not letting his head drop. It would have been difficult for him at the beginning of the season because he found it very hard, but he's starting to find his feet a bit."
Man United have picked up seven points from their last four games, having beaten Everton and Crystal Palace by the odd goal and drawing at West Ham. And, of course, they lost 2-1 at St. James' Park.

Carrick has emerged as a candidate to land the job permanently following Man United's form since his appointment.
Brown, who played with Carrick at Man United, has backed his ex-club colleague to get the gig on a full-time basis.
"Going forward, I think he's put his name right in the hat among many other managers," he said. "I think the club will obviously wait until they feel it's right to obviously name who they think. But I think Michael's definitely put his name in there. He's done really well, especially the first few games.
"He's got the results that are needed. And now it's about continuing that."
