Man Utd handed huge Viktor Gyokeres transfer boost as 'gentleman's agreement' reached

United have received a huge boost in signing Ruben Amorim's former striker.

Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres for a bargain price following a new bombshell report.

Gyokeres was Ruben Amorim's main man during his time at Sporting, with the Swede scoring a hat-trick against Manchester City in one of Amorim's final games in charge of the Portuguese side.

Amorim has had a mixed start to life at Old Trafford with just two wins in his opening nine Premier League games, however, a win at the Etihad and a point at Anfield have provided hope.

The new United boss could be tempted to add some firepower this January, following reports his relationship with forward Joshua Zirkzee has reached an all-time low.

Amorim receives major Gyokeres boost

However, Amorim could be inclined to hold off until the summer with reports of his former man, Gyokeres, being available for a cut price this summer.

According to Record Portugal, Gyokeres has a 'gentleman's agreement' with Sporting to let him go for a fee between £58.6m and £62.8m rather than his £83m release clause.

It is believed that Gyokeres' commitment to stay in Portugal last summer was largely down to Amorim, meaning an exit this summer is highly likely.

The 26-year-old has scored 74 goals in 79 appearances for Sporting since making the move from the Championship, and his arrival at Old Trafford could mark the true beginning of Amorim's era.

David Ornstein confirms Man United PSR situation

A summer move would probably be more practical for United, with the club under threat of breaching PSR if they spend big this month.

Speaking on The Athletic’s podcast, transfer expert David Ornstein explained the situation at Old Trafford.

“The way it has been explained to me is that Manchester United are going to be OK on PSR this month,” he said.

“It’s not like the walls are collapsing on their financial situation – it’s not great, clearly, they’ve got work to do. But I do think there is a bit of scope to do something [in the January window].”
