Sir Jim Ratcliffe has set five strict rules regarding new signings at Manchester United, and there are five players that could fit the bill perfectly.

This summer's transfer window will be the first since INEOS - headed by British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe - purchased a 27.7 per cent stake in Man United and took charge of footballing operations.

Ratcliffe promised to conduct a complete audit of the club, including the playing squad. While United will not be able to spend heavily this summer due to Premier League Profit and Sustainability rules, the departure of some high earners would create headroom for new arrivals.

As reported by several publications earlier this week, Ratcliffe has five new rules which will shape United's approach to transfers.

He has reportedly set an age limit of 25 for new recruits, while he doesn't want to sign what he considers 'Galactico' stars, as United have done in the past.

Incoming players must also be comfortable playing whatever style of football new technical director Jason Wilcox implements at Old Trafford.

From now on, the manager - whether Erik ten Hag or somebody else - will be asked what position he needs reinforcements in, but will not be asked for specific transfer targets. INEOS will reportedly present three options per position for the coach to choose from.

With those rules in mind, here are five players United could target this summer.

Jarrad Branthwaite

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite has been heavily linked with United after enjoying an impressive breakthrough campaign at Goodison Park.

The Toffees would reportedly want at least £60 million for the 21-year-old centre-back, but could be forced to accept a lower offer. United would certainly face stiff competition for the youngster.

Jean-Clear Todibo

With the contracts of Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans both expiring this summer, United desperately need new centre-backs.

Todibo could represent a cheaper option than Branthwaite, as the 24-year-old currently plays for INEOS-owned OGC Nice.

The defender, valued at around £40m, recently refused to rule out a move this summer.

Joao Neves

United reportedly readied an offer for 19-year-old midfielder Joao Neves in January, but his club Benfica came out to publicly deny he would be sold.

However, club president Rui Costa has since admitted that academy graduates might have to be sold this summer to raise funds.

With Casemiro struggling in his second season at Old Trafford, United could look to bring in a defensive midfielder for the future.

Michael Olise

Crystal Palace attacker Michael Olise was heavily linked with the likes of United, Chelsea and Man City last summer, but he ended up signing a new four-year contract with the south London club.

The contract does reportedly include a release clause that can be activated this summer, although it is likely worth around the £60m mark.

Primarily a right winger, 22-year-old Olise could be the perfect replacement for the underwhelming Antony.

Desire Doue

18-year-old starlet Desire Doue has made waves in Ligue 1 with Rennes this season, and as a result has caught the attentions of United and Arsenal.

The attacker - whose name literally translates to 'desired gift' - could be snapped up for around £30m, a steal considering his positional versatility and potential.
