Manchester United have been linked with a record-breaking transfer amid stunning reports claiming the club is in talks with Saudi Arabia over a fresh takeover bid.

Saudi sports chief Turki Alalshikh posted on social media suggesting that Man United are ready to sell to a new investor.

He revealed what he heard in an extraordinary claim given Sir Jim Ratcliffe purchased a 27.7 per cent stake in Man United for £1.25 billion last year.

The Glazer family rejected a takeover by Sheikh Jassim Al-Thani’s Qatari consortium, instead opting for the British businessman.

But it appears the Red Devils are once again on the market following Alalshikh's bombshell claim.

If Man United do indeed strike a deal with Saudi Arabia, then they could have a handsome transfer kitty to buy new players.

And it appears Man United already have a player in mind should they be backed in the transfer window.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Man United are 'eyeing' a monstrous move for Barcelona forward Raphinha.

A bid ranging between £104 million and £130 million has been rumoured, which would represent the club's highest ever transfer, with Paul Pogba currently their record signing at £89.3 million.

Per the report, Man United see him as a key to 'regaining prominence' in the Premier League.

Barca could be prepared to sell Raphinha considering their dire financial situation.

Fichajes state they could consider negotiating with Man United if the offer tabled is 'irresistible'.

The Catalan giants, however, demand a minimum of £104 million for their star player.

Sources close to Man United assure that the proposed figure would not be an impediment if viewed as a strategic investment.

Raphinha is contracted at Barca until June 2028, so they are in a strong position to negotiate a big transfer fee.

The report states that Man United need an attacking boost to revitalise their squad despite the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo during the summer transfer window.

Man United splashed out a combined £130 million to sign Cunha and Mbeumo but it appears they remain in the market for further additions, with Raphinha a target.

Of course, the Brazilian international has already plied his trade in England's top flight, having enjoyed a stellar spell with Leeds United.

He joined Leeds from Rennes in the summer of 2020 and scored 17 league goals in 65 games.
