Man Utd’s Final ‘Bomb Squad’ Player Gets Surprise Recall by Ruben Amorim

Ruben Amorim has recalled the only surviving member of Manchester United's 'bomb squad', it has been revealed.

In the summer, under pressure Amorim banished a number of United's players from training with the rest of the main group after deeming them surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia were all ostracised at Carrington and made to train at separate times to the first-team as United looked to get them off the books.

But while four of the five aforementioned players secured moves away to the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea, Real Betis and Aston Villa, left-back Malacia did not secure a transfer despite a slew of offers.

There were proposals from Lille and AS Roma, while a loan move to La Liga side Elche fell through on transfer deadline and Malacia had no interest in moving to Turkey or Saudi Arabia.

How Malacia sealed unlikely Man United return

To the surprise of many, he was included in United's Premier League squad when it was announced in September and a report from the Daily Mail claimed that Malacia's attitude has been "an example for everybody else" during training sessions with the reserve squad.

The 26-year-old, who spent part of last season on loan at PSV, has been praised for having intensity which is "off the charts".

And having requested to be involved in Under 21 fixtures, Dutch outlet VI, citing those with inside knowledge of the situation, say that Malacia is now back in the first-team squad "effectively immediately" thanks to his impressive conduct.

The former Feyenoord defender is to be given the opportunity to force his way back into Amorim's side, where January signing Patrick Dorgu has been the first-choice on the left side of the backline.

Malacia was signed by compatriot Erik ten Hag in 2022 for a fee of £13 million and played 39 times in his first season.

However, he spent 18 months on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery and made his return under Amorim in a Europa League win over Bodo/Glimt in November, playing 45 minutes.

He then played 12 times for PSV as they won the Eredivisie after returning on loan to the Netherlands, before heading back to United in the summer.

His contract is due to expire at the end of the season and though he had become United's forgotten man, Malacia may now play a part for the Red Devils.
